Civil Service Apprenticeship Application Stages — Everything You Need to Know

Salary: £27,000–£31,000Length: 4 yearsAcceptance: 3–6%

Here is every stage of the Civil Service Fast Stream Degree Apprenticeship application process — what happens, in what order, and what you need to do to pass each one.

1

Online Application Form

Complete your personal details, academic grades, and motivational questions. This is where you answer why Civil Service and why this programme. Application window: Autumn (October–December) for the following September start.

Prep tip

Answer motivational questions specifically — not generically. A specific reason for choosing Civil Service over a generic 'I want to work in the sector' answer makes an immediate difference.

2

Online Assessments

Verbal reasoning, numerical reasoning, and a situational judgement test based on the Civil Service Success Profiles framework

Prep tip

Practice with real providers (SHL, Korn Ferry, Cubiks) before the test date. Don't attempt on a mobile or slow connection.

3

Video Interview

Recorded video interview assessing Civil Service Behaviours from the Success Profiles framework

Prep tip

Record yourself answering a practice question and watch it back. Fix filler words, posture, and pacing before the real thing.

4

Assessment Centre

Held at a Civil Service office. Typically includes: e-tray exercise, Written exercise, FSB interview panel.

Prep tip

Prepare STAR stories for all competencies before the day. The assessment starts when you walk in — be professional with everyone you meet.
