EY Apprenticeship Application Tips 2026

Salary: £22,000–£26,000Length: 5 yearsAcceptance: 3–5%

The EY School Leaver Programmereceives thousands of applications each cycle. Here's what separates candidates who progress from those who don't — at every stage.

Before You Apply

  • 1.Research EY's current business priorities — not just what they do. Candidates who cite recent news, reports, or strategic announcements stand out.
  • 2.Prepare a genuine answer to “Why EY?” — not just “because it's a great company.” EY's partnership culture and global network are genuine differentiators. Strong candidates reference specific EY service lines or recent EY reports — not generic 'Big Four' talking points.
  • 3.Gather 5–7 strong STAR stories covering Integrity, Respect, Teaming, and more. Real examples beat generic ones every time.

Application Window

When to apply: October–January for the following September start.

Apply early. EY fills roles on a rolling basis — waiting until the deadline closes means competing against a much smaller pool of remaining spots.

Online Assessment Tips

Cognitive ability tests and a Situational Strength Test (SST)

  • Complete the tests in one sitting when you're alert — not late at night.
  • Use a fast, stable internet connection and a quiet space.
  • Do practice versions first (SHL, Korn Ferry, and Cubiks publish free samples).
  • Read each question fully before answering — rushing is the most common error.

The Most Common Rejection Reasons

Generic motivational answers — not specific to EY
STAR stories that describe what 'we' did, not what you did
No commercial awareness — can't explain what EY does in simple terms
Failing the online tests without any preparation
